L'Aquila, the Italian Capital of Culture for 2026, will host the 78th edition of the Prix Italia, the historic international competition organised by RAI and dedicated to the best in radio, television and multimedia production, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic. This year's edition is being held in collaboration with the Abruzzo Region and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with the support of L'Aquila City Council. For the first time in its history, the Prix Italia will take place in the heart of this Abruzzo city, a symbol of rebirth and innovation, recognised as a model smart city capable of embodying both historical memory and contemporary transformation.

The president of the 2026 edition is Corey Baker, a multi-award-winning New Zealand director and choreographer, internationally recognised for his dance performances in extreme environments and for projects that have gone viral worldwide, such as the choreography for Lady Gaga's "Dead Dance", featured in the Netflix series "Wednesday", and "Swan Lake Bath Ballet", created for the BBC and winner of the Prix Italia in 2021 with the following motivation: "For generations to come, this extraordinary production will stand as a perfect example of just how creative human beings can be, even in times of crisis". "It is an honour to be President of the Prix Italia in a year dedicated to the performing arts," says Corey Baker. "For me, this means strange, wild, crazy, extravagant, impossible and new things. This is what creative people want to achieve and – if broadcasters trust these creatives – they will realise that this is what the public wants too."
