ARD Game Jam – Classical Edition

Project Managers: Jasmin Käßer, Merve Kayikci. Social Media Editors: Lena Hofbauer, Malte Hemmerich, Sebastian Campsheide. Producing Organisation: SWR/ARD, SWR/ARD Kultur, Beans Entertainment. Coproducing Organisation: BEANS Entertainment

The "ARD Game Jam – Classical Edition", held from 13 to 15 February 2026, brought together classical orchestral music and modern game development for the first time in an interactive live-streaming event. The focus was on the question of how orchestral music itself can become a game. Seven teams from German-speaking countries developed games based on professionally recorded orchestral pieces by the SWR Symphony Orchestra. The music served not only as a soundtrack, but became a central element of the game, shaping gameplay mechanics, stories and rhythms. In parallel with the development, a ten-piece ensemble played live in the studio. The event was hosted by Sofia Kats, Louis Philippson and Daniel Budiman. The competition was broadcast as an interactive show on Twitch, ARD Mediathek and the ARD Klassik YouTube channel.

Presented by: Malte Hemmerich, Presenter, Editor

In 2020, Malte Hemmerich successfully completed his Master's degree in Music Journalism at TU Dortmund. He then worked for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and was an assistant director and curator at a streaming start-up; he is currently a presenter and editor at SWR Kultur. Among other things, you can hear him on the film music podcast "Score Snacks"; he produces videos for ARD Klassik social media and is excited about placing classical music in new contexts in the digital sphere.

"Inside the Manosphere" is a multimedia investigation into the online networks, influencers and narratives that shape the contemporary manosphere. Through journalism, interactive storytelling, data analysis and educational resources, the project reveals how misogynistic ideologies circulate across digital platforms and reach increasingly younger audiences. Combining personal testimonies, expert analysis and digital evidence, the investigation maps the ecosystem behind these communities and examines their social impact. More than an exposé, the project aims to strengthen critical thinking and media literacy, offering audiences the tools to understand and challenge online radicalisation and gender-based disinformation.
