Stuttgart, 1960. When John Cranko arrives by plane, he has no idea this moment will change his life. He is scheduled to guest choreograph at the Stuttgart Ballet. In London he faced humiliations and was barred from working due to his homosexuality. In Stuttgart, Cranko finds refuge from his past and is embraced despite his unconventional lifestyle. He quickly becomes the ballet director and a favourite of the audience, dedicating himself fully to his art and a vibrant social life. He engages in affairs, faces setbacks and deep crises, runs his office from the theatre canteen, and refers to his company as "his children". His rapid ascent, the "Stuttgart Ballet Miracle", propels Cranko to international fame. At the peak, he dies unexpectedly on a flight back from a U.S. tour, surrounded by dancers who were on board with him.
