we were extremely fortunate to be able to complete a successful Prix Italia in Rome last year, against an extremely difficult background caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Although vaccines are now on the horizon, 2021 is also being a difficult year. Therefore after consulting the President of RAI, we decided to embark on a number of important changes in 2021, designed to ensure that once again we have a safe and successful festival.
The most important of these is to announce that the 73rd Edition will take place from 14th to 18th of June in Milan. This will be at a time in the year when infections are likely to be low and summer temperatures will allow us to plan many of our events in open air locations. The 2021 theme is “Rebuilding Culture and Entertainment. Media’s Role for a New Start”.
The Jurors will start a pre-selection of the Radio, TV and Web programmes after an online briefing with the Prix Italia staff. After that, they will have time to listen to/ watch and assess the competing entries on our platform from Monday 26th April to Thursday 27th May, early in the afternoon. The Prix Italia Secretariat will single out the shortlisted entries which will be officially announced on our website.
Jury members will meet online on 7/8/9th June to assess the best programmes/projects in each of the 9 categories (3 Radio, 3 TV and 3 Web).
In line with tradition, besides the official categories there will be a Special Prize in Honour of the President of the Italian Republic. Also this jury will meet online between Tuesday 1st and Friday 11th June (16:00 CEST). We very much hope that jurors and delegates will then join us in Italy for the Prize-giving Ceremony in the afternoon of 17th June.
Again in 2021, both the jury Presidents and the winners will be guests of Prix Italia.
As you know, we all are experiencing an extremely difficult period. The pandemic has put us all to test but it has also underlined the importance of being part of a community like ours. It is a bond we have renewed each summer for more than 70 years.
